The Jeep Grand Cherokee set a new industry standard and rapidly became associated with deluxe design and unwavering abilities from the moment it was introduced in 1992, when the brand literally drove the SUV up the steps of Cobo Hall in Detroit and through a glass window, symbolizing the breakthrough premium SUV.

The bar is being raised
The 5th installment of the Jeep Grand Cherokee expands on the brand’s history as the most award-winning SUV ever, with an all-new design, plug-in hybrid powertrain, enhanced exterior, and a brand new interior featuring world-class attention to detail and first-to-market innovations to the global full-size SUV market.
The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee will be the most technologically sophisticated and 4×4-capable Jeep Grand Cherokee ever, as the most proficient SUV brand advances toward its vision of “Zero Emission Freedom.”
From the inside out, the Grand Cherokee is engineered to provide unrivaled capability and balanced driving characteristics. The Jeep brand’s iconic 4×4 capacity is instilled in Grand Cherokee via its renowned 4×4 systems (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II), Quadra-Lift air suspension, and Selec-Terrain traction control system.
The all-new architecture and streamlined aerodynamic exterior design work together to increase vehicle performance, reliability, and dependability while lowering vehicle weight, noise, vibration, and harshness dramatically.
Grand Cherokee is a full-size SUV that has been engineered to enhance overall passenger safety, comfort, and convenience. It comes with a strong punch of next-generation specs that set it apart from the competition.
The first Jeep Grand Cherokee hybrid
The 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe is the first of its name to be available in a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) edition. Its debut signifies the Jeep brand’s electrified vision of “Zero Emission Freedom” continuing to expand as it pursues future mobility during the brand’s 80th anniversary.
The Jeep 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle concept adds to the excitement, freedom, and exploration that Jeep is renowned for, while also giving an unrivaled performance, fuel efficiency, and environmental friendliness.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe comes with an estimated purely electric range of 25 miles (40 km), a total of 375 hp, and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. It also features the state-of-the-art Quadra Trac II 4×4 system with a two-speed transfer case.
The 4xe powertrain combines two electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic gearbox for optimal economy and capabilities, and is available in the Grand Cherokee Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve versions.
The 4xe package incorporates regenerative braking. When the driver hits the brake pedal, the engine control activates the electric motors’ maximum possible regenerative braking, up to 0.25 g, to slow the vehicle, which is supplemented by the Grand Cherokee’s conventional friction brakes.
“The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe driver can tailor its hybrid powertrain to suit each trip, from daily commuting in pure-electric mode to extended highway road trips with no range anxiety, allowing owners to explore nature off-road in near silence.
This is another important step toward achieving our global vision of Zero Emission Freedom. By 2025, we plan to offer a fully electric Jeep vehicle in every SUV segment.”, say Jeep representatives.
The combustion engines come in V6 and V8
Complementing the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe’s technologically innovative plug-in hybrid electric powerplant, the Grand Cherokee line-up for 2022 offers customers a pair of strong, fuel-efficient, and refined engines with proven performance for every driving circumstance.
The all-aluminum 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with 293 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque is standard. The Pentastar V-6 is known for its power and finesse, and the 60-degree angle between the cylinder banks ensures smooth operation, which is further enhanced by accessories that attach directly to the engine block.
The Pentastar V-6 engine is small, with features such as exhaust manifolds built into the cylinder heads, winning the Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems award seven times.
The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine has a towing capability of up to 6,200 pounds (2,812 kg) and a driving range of more than 500 miles, which is considered best in class.
Customers looking for additional power may select for the award-winning 5.7-liter V-8, which produces 357 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque across a wide range of revs.
With VVT and Fuel Saver Technology, also available on the V6, the V-8 combines performance and economy. During light-load driving, such as highway driving, the engine management unit cuts off fuel and spark and closes the valves to four of the engine’s cylinders using Fuel Saver Technology.
When the driver hits the accelerator pedal, the mechanism promptly re-engages the deactivated cylinders.
The 5.7-liter V-8 offers a class-leading 7,200-pound towing capability (3,265 kg).
Top 4×4 capacity, of course
The Jeep Grand Cherokee combines unequaled capabilities with controlled on-road performance. Three 4×4 systems – Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic limited slip differential – start the famed off-road capabilities (eLSD). An active transfer case is standard on all three systems, which improves traction by directing power to the wheel with the best grip.
The Jeep Quadra-LiftTM air suspension, which is class-exclusive and now includes electronic semi-active dampening, provides up to 11.3 inches (28.7 cm) of ground clearance and 24 inches (61 cm) of water fording.
The technology changes shock tuning automatically to changing road conditions for improved comfort, stability, and control, or it may be adjusted manually using console controls, and it comes with five height settings for maximum ride performance.
Customers may select between on-road and off-road settings for optimal 4×4 performance with the class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system.
4×4 torque split, braking and handling, steering and suspension systems, throttle control, gearbox shift, transfer case, traction control, stability control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), and steering feel are all electrically coordinated by this function.
The Selec-Terrain system has five terrain modes: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud/Sand. These presets may be used to deliver ideal calibrations for each driving situation.
Front axle separation is new for the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4 model year 2022. When the vehicle detects that the driving conditions do not need all-wheel drive, the front-axle disconnect switches the Grand Cherokee to two-wheel drive, decreasing driveline drag and boosting fuel efficiency. When the vehicle detects that four-wheel drive is required, it automatically re-engages.
Comfort and serenity on the inside
The sumptuous, next-generation interior of the Jeep Grand Cherokee has grown to include handmade materials and sophisticated features.
New slim HVAC vents, a re-aligned center stack for improved driver accessibility, and 10.1-inch (25.6 cm) digital screens (digital cluster and touchscreen radio), as well as a segment-first available 10.25-inch (26 cm) front passenger interactive display and a new high-definition rear-seat entertainment system with FireTV built-in, are all available on the front panel.
For the front row passengers, the all-new Jeep seating design includes a length-adjustable cushion. The new 16-way adjustable front seats have power lumbar and memory, as well as new front driver and passenger seat back massage in higher-spec models. The front two rows include heated/vented seats with three-level programmable settings.
Updated switches and greater storage space in the front bin that can carry two wireless gadgets and a wireless charger have been added to the center console layout.
For the first time on a Grand Cherokee, an all-new premium LED lighting suite with daytime/nighttime options is standard on all trim levels, and genuine ambient lighting with a five-color selection is available on Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve models.
