The 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ are new to the AMG lineup. They are based on Mercedes’ premium class electric-exclusive architecture (EVA2). AMG-specific solutions offer a powerful and emotively attractive driving experience in the areas of drive, suspension, brakes, sound, design, and equipment.
With two electric motors, the new Mercedes-AMG EQE models provide performance-oriented propulsion solutions. With a motor on each axle, the strong electric drivetrain (eATS) also enables completely variable all-wheel drive, which ideally distributes drive force to the road under all driving situations.
The EQE 43 4MATIC has a power range of 350 kW (476 hp) to 505 kW (687 hp) in the EQE 53 4MATIC+ with the optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package and boost function. The maximum torque available is between 858 and 1000 Nm.

The EQE 43 4MATIC is the entry-level model for electric Driving Performance from Mercedes-AMG. The EQE 53 4MATIC+, on the other hand, focuses on even more sportiness and greater driving dynamics. And that’s not the end of our Future of Driving Performance: After performance hybrids and all-electric AMG derivatives based on EVA2, stand-alone AMG electric vehicles will follow in the not too distant future. These are based on AMG.EA, our new, completely in-house-developed platform,” says Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

AMG power with two electric motors offering a greatly balanced ride
Permanently excited synchronous motors power the AMG-specific electric motors at the front and rear axles (PSM). The power and torque figures show that a strong focus on performance is already in place.
Furthermore, electric motors have a perfect blend of power generation, efficiency, and noise comfort. The electric motors in the EQE 43 4MATIC have been tuned and controlled specifically for AMG. The AMG-specific electric motors, with customized windings and laminations, greater currents, and a unique inverter, are used in the EQE 53 4MATIC+.
This allows for faster engine speeds and more power, which is especially visible during acceleration and peak speed.
The six-phase architecture of the electric motor on the rear axle, which is made up of two windings with three phases each, makes it extremely strong. A very high magnetic field is provided by the stator with pull-in winding.
In addition, the thermal idea is very durable, allowing for repeated acceleration movements with consistently good performance. The so-called water lance in the rotor shaft, which cools it, is the focal point of the innovative design.
Special ribs on the stator and the needle-shaped pin-fin structure on the inverter, both constructed of high-performance ceramics, are further AMG-specific cooling features in the cooling circuit. There’s also the transmission oil heat exchanger to consider. Apart from cooling, the oil is also warmed to improve efficiency during cold starts.
Battery performance with 360 pouch-cells
The new Mercedes-AMG EQE models come with a strong 328-volt high-performance drive battery made with the most cutting-edge lithium-ion technology. It’s comprised of 10 modules with a total of 360 pouch cells and has a useful energy content of 90.6 kWh. The EQE 53’s battery management system has also been tweaked particularly for AMG.
Performance is prioritized in the Sport and Sport+ drive modes, while the operational range is prioritized in the Comfort drive program. The new battery generation features a high energy density as well as a large charging capacity. Another new feature is the ability to apply battery management system upgrades over the air for ongoing improvement throughout the life cycle.
The AMG-specific wiring harness for the EQE 53 4MATIC+ is fitted to the enhanced performance potential. Cell chemistry has made a significant step forward in terms of sustainability: the cobalt concentration has been lowered to ten percent. Nickel, cobalt, and manganese in an 8:1:1 ratio make up the optimized active material.
The new battery generation also has the benefit of quick charging periods. Fast charging stations with direct current can charge the energy storage system up to 170 kW. In this situation, 180 kilometers of power (WLTP) may be recharged in about 15 minutes.
The electrified AMG can be charged at home or at public charging stations with 11 kW or optionally 22 kW of alternating current using the onboard charger. Bidirectional charging, i.e. charging in both ways, will be feasible in Japan. In addition, depending on the location, intelligent charging routines may be initiated automatically.
Battery-saving charging, for example, makes operations even more efficient.
2022 Mercedes-AMG EQE models offer rear steering as standard
The rear-axle steering is standard on both Mercedes-AMG EQE variants. The up to 3.6-degree steering angle encourages nimble handling. When driving in town or on rural roads, the interplay between the front axle and rear-axle steering is intended to ensure agile reaction with little steering effort.
The rear wheels steer in the opposite direction as the front wheels at speeds below 60 km/h. The Mercedes-AMG EQE is agile, light-footed, and maneuverable as a result of this. When performing a turn, changing direction abruptly, or maneuvering slowly, the effect is very beneficial. The rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels at speeds above 60 km/h.
At high speeds, as well as during quick lane changes or unexpected evasive maneuvers, the resultant nearly expanded wheelbase improves handling stability and driving safety.
AMG Dynamic Select drive programs
The driver may modify the driving qualities at the press of a button to fit the scenario or their own preferences. The five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes “Slippery,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport+,” and “Individual” enable this.
The programs span a wide range of comfort levels to extreme sportiness. The chosen driving program includes important factors such as drive and performance characteristics, suspension settings, AMG DYNAMICS with, among other things, steering torque characteristics, and AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE.
The maximum drive power may be accessed through kick-down in the Sport+ drive program or in all other drive programs. The maximum power is modified in the other driving settings (except Sport+) to improve efficiency and minimize consumption.
The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs also allow the driver to pre-select the fundamental suspension setup: for example, the driving style may be changed from maximal dynamics in “Sport+” mode to smooth glide in “Comfort” mode at the press of a button. Furthermore, using a dedicated button, the tuning may be altered in three stages independently of the driving programs.
The central drive control unit automatically engages alternative de-rating and cooling techniques depending on the drive program: the cooling system is started sooner and the cooling capacity is enhanced in “Sport” and “Sport+” to sustain supplied power for longer.
The ESP OFF mode allows the driver to have even greater driving enjoyment — for example, on designated racing circuits.
Powerful and customizable sound experience
The performance and sports vehicle brand AMG is giving electric mobility a new voice with the AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE, a soundtrack for outside and inside that emotionally enriches the dynamic driving experience.
The acoustic composition, like the drive programs, has a broad bandwidth: in the standard basic version “Authentic,” the client may adjust the sound and strength based on the driving condition and drive program chosen. Additional gear, such as specific speakers, a bass actuator, and a sound generator, is used to create the signature AMG driving noises.
Another option for even more individuality: in any driving program, the driver may pick the sound characteristics “Balanced,” “Sport,” and “Powerful” via the AMG steering wheel buttons or the central display. During RACE START, the car emits a distinct sound that corresponds to the dynamic acceleration.
A combination of aggressiveness and elegance on the outside
The new Mercedes-AMG EQE models stand out from conventional cars because of their one-bow lines and cab-forward design with fastback. The richly sculpted surfaces minimized joints, and smooth transitions represent the design concept. AMG’s signature characteristics are also included in the exterior design.
The front appearance is defined by the AMG-specific black panel grille with hot-stamped vertical struts in chrome, an integrated Mercedes star, and “AMG” lettering. When the car is opened and closed, the standard DIGITAL LIGHT headlights provide a distinct AMG projection. The front bumper, which is painted in the vehicle’s color, retains the unique design style.
The front apron, which is coated in high-gloss black and incorporates chrome trim, contrasts with the usual AMG A-wing design. The front splitter, which is finished in high-gloss black with chrome trim and flics and fins on the optical air intakes, has the same aesthetic. In addition, there are high-gloss black air diffusers on the left and right for the AIR CURTAIN effect.
The high-gloss black AMG side sill panels, the vehicle-color rear apron with an aerodynamically optimized diffuser, and the bigger rear spoiler complete the dynamic look. The improvements increase driving dynamics and economy by lowering the rear lift without affecting drag appreciably. The aerodynamics of all AMG light-alloy wheels have been optimized.
The Mercedes-AMG EQE models provide a sporty experience on the inside
The cabin is likewise dominated by AMG elements that define the car’s flair. AMG seats with customized designs and special seat coverings in ARTICO man-made leather with MICROCUT microfibre and red decorative topstitching give the new vehicles a sporty feel. Optional Nappa leather seat upholstery is also available, along with AMG-specific seat graphics.
AMG insignia may also be seen on the backrests of the front seats, as well as embossed AMG emblems on the front headrests.
With its stunning twin-spoke design and flawlessly integrated buttons, the AMG Performance steering wheel blends visual stability with lightness. Heating is available for the steering wheel rim, which is flattened at the bottom and upholstered in Nappa leather. The AMG steering wheel buttons have stunning displays as standard.
This lets you operate critical driving features and drive programs without having to take your hands off the wheel. A large number of parameters may be chosen directly. The choices on the left steering wheel button may be supplemented, altered, or decreased on an individual basis.
For this, there is a list of more than 15 information and configuration choices as direct selection for the steering wheel buttons in the Multimedia Touch Display or the optional Hyperscreen.
The MBUX Hyperscreen is available optionally
The unique MBUX Hyperscreen is available as an option on both new models. From A-pillar to A-pillar, this huge, curved screen unit spans. Under a glass cover, three displays seem to merge into one. MBUX adapts totally to its users thanks to adaptive software and delivers customized recommendations for a variety of infotainment, comfort, and vehicle functions.
The most critical applications are always shown situationally and contextually on the top level in the field of view using the so-called zero layer.
Dynamic material is also authorized on the passenger display while driving in Europe and China. As a result, unrestricted watching of films, text messages, and presentations, as well as internet browsing, is enabled. The “blanking feature” prevents the driver from being distracted by the material presented on the screen.
With a new AMG-specific screensaver, the passenger display remains an enticing eye-catcher even without dynamic content.
MBUX has a number of extra AMG features that emphasize the car’s performance. This is especially true of the instrument cluster’s unique displays, as well as the multimedia display and the head-up display. The matching direct-entry button in the central console provides quick access to the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programs.
