The all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado was unveiled recently and it offers consumers improved performance, capabilities, and customizability in addition to a modernized look and interior. The Colorado family includes three off-road variants based on three distinct chassis configurations, including the first-ever Trail Boss and an even more capable ZR2.

More options for more individuality

2023 Chevy Colorado: rolling out three exciting off-road beastsTo develop the Colorado, engineers, and designers concentrated on three critical areas: improved performance, advanced technology, and elevated design. To build a cohesive Colorado pickup family, each category integrates into a condensed portfolio centered on a single wheelbase and single cab layout.

Work Truck (WT), LT, Z71, ZR2, and the first-ever Trail Boss variants are all part of the 2023 Colorado portfolio. To maximize the possibilities of each model in the portfolio, three alternative chassis stances are available. Together, they make up a wider variety of options catered to the many ways that consumers utilize their vehicles for both business and leisure activities, such as off-roading.

“The all-new Colorado is enhanced in every way. With its rugged and sporty styling, enhanced capability, new technology and customization options, it’s designed to do more for discerning customers and still offer them great value,” said Scott Bell, global vice president of Chevrolet.

The 2023 Colorado has an entirely new interior that combines sophistication and convenience with work-ready durability and comfort, in addition to a new external style and proportions. Customers may now choose from four different interior trim options throughout the whole 2023 Colorado series.

The hub of the interior is a segment-first, class-leading, standard 11.3-inch-diagonal color infotainment touchscreen that is joined by an 8-inch-diagonal completely digital color instrument display. Both of these displays are fully customizable.

“We set out to design the Colorado as a tough, muscular and capable midsize truck, which we think especially came through in the wide ZR2 trim with the aggressive grille shield. Across all trims, the exterior’s presence and attitude is reflected in the interior, which is designed around the large center stack screen,” said Phil Zak, executive design director.

The 2023 Colorado builds on the popularity of the current generation by offering a substantial selection of on- and off-road accessories for every trim. The off-road accessory catalog has more than quadrupled from prior model years in an attempt to provide each client the ability to create their own off-road dream vehicle.

New engine: 2.7L Turbo

In order to improve performance and refinement, the engine gets a number of improvements for the 2023 model year. Along with a completely forged bottom end and materials utilized in diesel engines, they include a more robust cylinder block casting and a 30% stronger crankshaft to provide the durability consumers want.

More horsepower and torque are produced by this one modern engine than by the preceding three combined. For instance, the new basic 2.7L Turbo engine has 18% more horsepower and 36% more torque than the base engine in the current Colorado.

Additionally, the higher-output variants of the 2.7L engine lineup provide more horsepower and torque than the 3.6L V-6 and 2.8L turbo-diesel engines offered in the current model.

Additionally, especially in off-road circumstances, it excels at low-speed movement.

Depending on the variant, the 2.7L engine has an output of 237hp (259 lb.-ft), 310hp (390 lb.-ft) or 310hp (430 lb.-ft).

Top off-road performance and on-road comfort

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado range debuts with three different chassis settings that have been redesigned to enable daily activities and off-road excursions without compromising off-road capabilities or on-road comfort:

  • Standard: WT, LT, and Z71 trims
  • 2-inch Factory-Lifted, Ultra-Wide Stance: Trail Boss
  • High-Performance 3-inch Factory-Installed Lift & Wide Stance: ZR2

The 2023 Colorado features a 3.1-inch larger wheelbase than the present Crew Cab/short box model since all models are constructed on a new chassis. The truck’s approach angle is greatly enhanced by a reduced front overhang, which also adds to a more aggressive posture.

In order to provide better off-road driving performance, the Trail Boss sports a 2-inch raised suspension, a broad chassis, and a 3-inch wider front track than WT and LT. With a high-performance 3-inch raised suspension and improved Multimatic DSSV dampers, ZR2 is the most powerful of them all.

2023 Chevy Colorado: rolling out three exciting off-road beasts“The new Colorado is a lifestyle enabler. Because outdoor activities are a big part of our Colorado customers’ lifestyles, we’ve made the truck even more capable to support them — from increased bed functionality to comprehensive performance enhancements that help take them farther,” said Nicholas Katcherian, vehicle chief engineer.

Customers are able to navigate more difficult terrain because of the improved clearances. For instance, the Colorado can climb more steep terrain than previously with a greater approach angle, free from suspension or bodywork obstruction.

Assistance technologies

The technologies used in the Chevrolet Colorado also come with an expanded set of driver awareness and safety measures. Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic high-beam assistance are all included in the standard Chevy Safety Assist package.
