Hybrid variants and driving modes

With the original Prius, Toyota established the term “hybrid” as a synonym for fuel economy more than 20 years ago. With the Crown, Toyota now offers a total of 16 electric cars, adding to its growing hybrid and electrified vehicle lineups.

The HYBRID MAX System, another first for Toyota sedans, is another hybrid innovation seen in the Toyota Crown. This new system’s goal is to provide efficient, torque-filled acceleration that is both smooth and strong.

HYBRID MAX combines a front electric motor that helps enhance torque output with a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo engine calibrated to produce peak torque between 2000 and 3000 RPM.

The hybrid engine is coupled with a rear wheel eAxle that has a high output, water-cooled electric motor to provide power straight to all four wheels, delivering a thrilling throttle response and linear acceleration across the power range.

The Toyota Crown’s fourth-generation Toyota Hybrid System is an extremely compact system that combines a highly efficient 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. Variable Valve Timing-intelligent by Electric Motor (VVT-iE) is used on the gas engine’s intake camshaft, while VVT-i is used on the engine’s exhaust camshaft.

The variable range for the intake and exhaust valve timings is intended to optimize both output and fuel economy.

2023 Toyota Crown: the popular model returns with fresh style and hybrid systemsThe NORMAL, ECO, and SPORT driving modes that are available in cars with THS let the driver customize the Toyota Crown’s performance characteristics. Hybrid driving is more enjoyable because of SPORT mode’s improved and sharpened throttle response.

While NORMAL mode is best for regular driving, ECO mode alters the throttle and environmental logic to assist the driver to concentrate on getting the most out of the fuel and batteries. Additionally, EV (Electric Vehicle) mode enables short-distance, low-speed electric-only driving.

In addition to NORMAL, ECO, and SPORT, the HYBRID MAX equipped Platinum grade receives three additional drive modes: SPORT+, which places an emphasis on steering response, flat cornering, and a sense of stability; COMFORT, which offers a more supple drive that emphasizes passenger comfort; and CUSTOM, which allows drivers to individually adjust system settings to create a safe profile that suits their driving style.

Top driving experience and comfort

With standard 8-way electrically adjustable driver and front passenger seats, the Toyota Crown offers exceptional comfort. The front seat may be adjusted to slide, recline, tilt, height, and provide lumbar support (driver seat only). Ample padding and bolster support are provided in the rear seats for optimal comfort.

The front seats in the Toyota Crown are heated as standard and have three degrees of heat adjustment. Standard heated rear seats and ventilated front seats are added to the list of creature pleasures in the Limited and Platinum trim levels.

With Softex and black woven fabric upholstery on the XLE and leather seats as standard on the Limited and Platinum grades, the seats are not only supportive but also fashionable.

2023 Toyota Crown: the popular model returns with fresh style and hybrid systemsAdditionally, dual-zone temperature control is a must for all grades. Just below the multimedia screen on the dashboard is a slim, elegant control panel that is lit and has buttons on the bottom row for often used features. A 12.3-inch color MID is also included with all Crown grades.

With the touch of a button, drivers may choose between several displays, including a Hybrid System Indicator that promotes eco-friendly driving practices by displaying the driver’s system output and regeneration status. The display offers the ideal amount of acceleration for eco-driving, as it does on previous Toyota hybrid vehicles.

A common panoramic moonroof is included with the Crown Platinum and Limited trims. In-cabin LED lighting gives a premium feel for more utility and ambiance. Cup holders, USB ports, and door handles are also accented with lighted lights as part of the illumination, which takes visibility and use into account.

When it comes to plugging in electronics, the 2023 Toyota Crown has both drivers and passengers covered. A vertical-style wireless Qi charging with improved space economy is standard on the driver’s side. Inside the console is a regular USB-Type A connector as well as a 12V charging port.

On the passenger side, a second twin USB-Type C terminal is also standard, with the insertion port purposefully pointed toward the passenger seat. Two USB-Type C ports are included as standard for backseat passengers.

The Platinum grade includes a Bird’s Eye View Camera with Perimeter Scan as standard equipment, which offers a wide-angle overhead view of the area around the vehicle and improves visibility. On the Limited grade, Bird’s Eye View is a component of the Advanced Tech Package.

Projected path and dynamic gridlines are aspects of the typical backup camera. The Limited and Platinum both have a Smart Key System that operates on all four doors as standard equipment for further convenience.

2023 Toyota Crown: the popular model returns with fresh style and hybrid systemsHigh-end safety and technology features

The Advanced Park System from Toyota is included with the Platinum grade. Hands-free parallel or reverse/forward perpendicular parking is possible because of sensors that detect an available parking spot and then regulate steering, shifting, accelerating, and braking.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0), which features improvements made possible by system sensors with increased detection capacity, is a standard feature on all Toyota Crown grades. In some circumstances, the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection may identify motorcycle riders and guardrails.

The technology is intended to identify specific forward or lateral oncoming cars while making a turn or approaching a junction and, in certain circumstances, to deliver audio/visual warnings and automated braking.

The 2023 Toyota Crown is going to include dynamic radar cruise control (DRCC). The efficacy of Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Lane Tracing Assist has improved thanks to improved lane identification.

When it detects that a vehicle is leaving its lane without turning on its turn signal, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is intended to warn the driver through auditory, visual, and mild steering assistance. When DRCC is configured and activated, Lane Tracing Assist helps keep the car centered in its lane by using clear lane markings or a car in front of it.

Automatic High Beams are designed to automatically switch between high beam and low beam headlights when they detect approaching or preceding cars. Using a forward-facing camera, Road Sign Assist is intended to detect specific information on road signs and show it on the multi-information display (MID).

2023 Toyota Crown: the popular model returns with fresh style and hybrid systemsAll Toyota Crown grades have the Rear Seat Reminder as standard equipment. With a reminder message in the instrument cluster and multitone chimes when the engine is switched off, the function may record if a rear door was opened after the car has been started.

The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), which is intended to help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes, and the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), which helps detect vehicles approaching from either side while backing out and alerts you with a visual and audible warning, are additional standard safety features on the Crown in addition to the TSS 3.0 system.

Additionally standard is Hill Start Assist Control (HAC).

A free, one-year trial membership to Toyota Safety Connect, which offers Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Locator, Roadside Assistance, and Automatic Collision Notification, is included with every Toyota Crown.
