The 2024 model year elevates the GMC Sierra HD portfolio to new heights with premium luxury and comfort, turbocharged pulling power, and enhanced technology – offering the most trailering assistance technology in its class – led by the first-ever Sierra Heavy Duty Denali Ultimate.

“The new and enhanced 2024 Sierra HD builds on an already winning foundation. This truck elevates the HD segment with the introductions of the Denali Ultimate trim and will soon add the seriously off-road capable AT4X trim, further strengthening the dominance of the GMC truck portfolio,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC.

Top heavy-duty features

2024 GMC Sierra HD: heavy duty technology and luxuryThe 2024 GMC Sierra HD portfolio consists of the 2500HD and 3500HD models in Regular Cab, Extended Cab, and Crew Cab body styles. The 3500HD also offers dual-rear-wheel variants. They are capable of towing up to 36,000 pounds, which is the maximum capacity in the series. Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate are the available trims; the AT4X trim will be introduced later in the model year.

What you get with the 2024 models:

  • The 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V-8 and 10-speed Allison gearbox combine for increased power, producing 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque while offering 25% more low-end torque than the outgoing model for a stronger sensation of power on demand.
  • Max towing capabilities: 2500HD Crew Cab – up to 21,900 pounds; 2500HD – up to 22,500 pounds; 3500HD – up to 36,000 pounds.
  • Through GMC’s ProGrade trailering system, which provides up to 14 camera views, it has the most readily accessible trailering assistance technologies in its class.
  • Updated technologies, including an available new 13.4-inch-diagonal tablet-style infotainment touchscreen.

Power and luxury exhibited by the updated design

Inside, GMC designers distinguished the Sierra from rivals with fresh, distinctive interiors for the SLE and SLT grades as well as distinctive GMC premium interior designs for the AT4 and Denali trims. Additionally, Sierra’s inside has more luxury materials and new color and stitching patterns, further boosting its upscale appearance and feel.

Exterior highlights are:

  • Revised front bumper, fascia, grille designs, and finishes on each trim
  • Animated lighting when approaching, starting, or when using the turn signals
  • New wheel designs on SLE, AT4, and Denali, and larger 18-inch polished aluminum wheels on dual-rear-wheel models

GMC Sierra HD top trim: Denali

2024 GMC Sierra HD: heavy duty technology and luxuryThe first-ever Sierra HD Denali Ultimate is the most upscale, opulent, and technologically sophisticated Sierra HD yet. It is outfitted with one-of-a-kind improvements to the exterior styling and premium interior appointments, more standard technologies, and standard turbocharged performance with the improved 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel and Allison 10-speed transmission.

The exterior of the Denali Ultimate stands out thanks to its distinctive grille, GMC badging in exclusive Vader chrome, exclusive 20-inch Ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels with High Gloss black accents, and distinctive fender badging that depicts Mount Denali’s topography, which is the highest point in North America.

A six-way MultiPro Tailgate with a standard Kicker audio system will also be included with the Denali Ultimate model. It also comes included with power assist steps.

The special Alpine Umber interior of the Denali Ultimate raises the bar for ultimate elegance and comfort in a heavy-duty vehicle. The inside trim is painstakingly decorated with open-pore Paldao wood and full-grain leather accents. The darker finish of the wood produces a striking color combination, and the unusual graining adds tailored attention to detail.

Other Denali highlights include: massage seats with 16-way power adjustability, Bose Premium surround sound system with 12 speakers or the 15-inch multicolor head-up display.

Engine and transmission for capable power output

With the 10-speed Allison gearbox and the optional upgraded 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel, the engine now produces 470 horsepower at 2800 rpm and 975 lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm, providing increased power over the full operating speed range. In particular, for better-towing capability, low-end torque output rises by up to 25% in comparison to the existing model.

With the help of a new, optional Max Tow Package, the 2024 Sierra HD will also provide best-in-class 2500 Crew Cab towing of up to 21,900 pounds and a maximum 2500 towing of up to 22,500 pounds.

To improve overall performance and generate more efficient combustion, more modifications and enhancements were made.

The 6.6L gas engine that comes standard with the Sierra HD is now mated to an Allision 10-speed automatic gearbox. The new six-speed automatic replaces the previous model, and by providing decreased intervals between gears, it allows the 6.6L gas engine to maintain its maximum output (401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque) for longer.

This results in a more assured feeling of on-demand power, whether or not the truck is towing a trailer. However, when it is, the 10-speed configuration, as well as the capability of channeling every single pound-foot of torque to the tires in every gear, enhances trailering performance and capability.

Purposeful tech features

Through the optional ProGrade Trailering System, the 2024 Sierra HD will also have the most trailering assistance technologies in the heavy-duty class 1. The ProGrade Trailering System has a number of intelligent trailering support technologies that are available to aid with towing and hitching, as well as built-in features that improve customers’ perceptions of visibility, safety, and confidence.

2024 GMC Sierra HD: heavy duty technology and luxuryThe new optional 13.4-inch-diagonal tablet-style touchscreen, the biggest infotainment display in its class, is the focal point of Sierra’s high-tech interior cabin. The touchscreen delivers a user-friendly, configurable experience and is positioned in landscape format.

Additionally included for the 2024 model year are a new 12.3-inch-diagonal digital instrument cluster and a multicolor 15-inch head-up display. This adds up to almost 40 inches of immersive digital displays, which contribute to a complete, adaptable, and exciting driving experience.

Customers may link almost every element of their daily life inside their car thanks to the brand-new touchscreen entertainment center, which can be customized to a user’s preferences, including the option to run numerous applications concurrently in a split-screen perspective. Both Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto are supported by the system.

Available from 2023

The refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD arrives at dealerships in the first quarter of 2023, with the AT4X coming later in 2023. Pricing will be announced closer to the start of production.
