The Aston Martin DB12 – Performance Personified
The DB12 asserts itself as the most accomplished DB model in Aston Martin’s history. Beyond its stunning exterior and refined interior, the true marvel of this super tourer lies in its performance. Powered by a class-leading 680PS/800NM V8 Twin-Turbo powertrain, the DB12 is the epitome of exceptional performance, handling, and control.
The engine specifications alone demonstrate the car’s remarkable power: a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds, a top speed of 202mph, and a whopping 680PS/671bhp at 6000rpm and 800Nm/590 lb-ft between 2750-6000rpm, a 34% increase compared with the outgoing DB11.
These figures underscore DB12’s fierce performance, underlining Aston Martin’s commitment to offering the very best in automotive excellence.
Roberto Fedeli, Group Chief Technology Officer of Aston Martin said of the new DB12: “DB12 is a statement car. One that asserts Aston Martin’s position as a leader in performance, dynamics, engineering and technology. We have pushed every aspect of this car to be best-in-class. The result is more power and performance than its rivals.
Combined with exceptional handling and an exciting soundtrack, it is a car with passion and a truly sporting character. Crucially, thanks to its breadth of capability we have achieved this without compromising refinement, comfort and luxury.
Together with our use of industry-leading dynamic control and infotainment systems, DB12 is the start of Aston Martin’s most exciting new era.”
Performance Optimization and Engineering
Engineered for maximum performance, the DB12 employs a holistic approach to ensure a flawless driving experience. To achieve this, Aston Martin incorporated meaningful increases in structural stiffness, partnered with Michelin to introduce the Pilot Sport 5 S tires made to their precise specifications, and innovated an all-new suspension system featuring the latest adaptive dampers.
Of particular interest is the Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system that ensures exceptionally precise and direct steering control, along with an Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff) that enhances agility on the most dynamic of roads.
The E-Diff is a revelation in automotive engineering – capable of transitioning from fully open to 100% locked in mere milliseconds, it offers more precise and consistent handling to the driver.
Advanced Safety Features
The DB12 doesn’t compromise on safety. It incorporates an industry-leading Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, which employs a six-axis inertia measurement to predict available grip, ensuring both performance and safety are maintained in perfect balance.
The driver can choose from five pre-set driving modes, allowing incremental exploration of grip and traction limits, enhancing the driving experience without compromising safety.
The DB12 – Heritage and Celebration
The unveiling of the DB12 coincides with Aston Martin’s monumental 110th anniversary and 75 years of the DB model line. Since Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford officially formed the partnership that became Aston Martin, the company has exemplified automotive passion, cutting-edge British innovation, and high-octane racing success.
This car comes at a time when Aston Martin is enjoying one of the most dynamic periods in its 110-year history, with continued podium success in the 2023 Formula 1 season.
New Era of Sports Cars
With its high-performance and ultra-luxury features, the DB12 spearheads Aston Martin’s next generation of sports cars. This model heralds a new era that will see all Aston Martin models characterized by prodigious performance, pinpoint dynamics, seamless integration of advanced technologies, and the sublime style and craftsmanship for which the brand has long been renowned.
Exterior and Interior Design
The DB12’s exterior design is a bold expression of its capabilities. The innovative aluminum structure pushes the boundaries of grand touring design and performance. The traditional Aston Martin grille is enlarged and honed to improve aerodynamics and cooling. The car’s silhouette, with its streamlined roof and smooth body lines, accentuates its sporting character.
The interior of the DB12 is a modern luxury haven, with a spacious cabin draped in the finest Bridge of Weir leather. The DB12’s interior also includes the company’s all-new, in-house developed infotainment system – the most advanced system ever fitted in an Aston Martin, delivering a uniquely immersive experience.
Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin, adds: “DB12 is our design definition of a Super Tourer. Historically, the GT code among most contemporary enthusiasts meant some semblance of comfort, speed, and refinement.
But since the Aston Martin customer is no ordinary motorist, and we no longer simply design objects in and of themselves, we’ve fused everything together on the DB12 — the handling, dynamics, powertrain, sense of space, and styling— and we’ve done it to the max through technology to deliver this new category of performance-design driving experience.”
The DB12 – A Milestone in Aston Martin’s History
The DB12 is undoubtedly a milestone in Aston Martin’s illustrious history. This model not only captures the iconic Aston Martin ethos of Power, Beauty, and Soul but also defines a new chapter of innovation and technology. The DB12 is a testament to Aston Martin’s indomitable spirit, commitment to excellence, and continuous pursuit of producing the world’s most desirable cars.
With the first deliveries anticipated to start in Q3 2023, the Aston Martin DB12 promises to set a new standard in the grand touring segment.
