Mercedes-AMG is stepping towards the all-electric future of driving performance with the new EQS 53 4MATIC+. The Mercedes-EQ platform for premium and executive-class cars serves as the foundation for the first battery-electric AMG production model.

“The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is the first all-electric ambassador in the performance segment, made in Affalterbach. It is tailor-made for car enthusiasts who are looking for a combination of innovative electric mobility in a luxurious ambience, coupled with sportiness and agile driving dynamics. With our first all-electric AMG vehicle, we will undoubtedly appeal to and win over a new clientele for Mercedes-AMG. In addition, the EQS 53 is further proof that Mercedes-Benz is consistently driving electrification forward with all its brands as well. Further all-electric AMG models will follow in the not too distant future, also on our AMG.EA platform developed entirely in-house,” says Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes‑AMG.

AMG performance and Mercedes luxury features

The performance-oriented driving system with two motors lies at the core of the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+. The AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system offers completely variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, which ideally delivers drive power to the pavement in all driving circumstances.

The base model has a maximum total output of 484 kW (658 hp) and 950 Nm of motor torque. In RACE START mode with boost function, the maximum output climbs to up to 560 kW (761 hp) with the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package, which is available as an option. The maximum motor torque reaches 1020 Nm at this point.

With a battery charge level of at least 75%, the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ sprints from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. With the optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package, the highest speed is restricted to 250 km/h.

The AMG EQS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds in its basic form (minimum 30 percent battery charge). Its maximum speed is restricted to 220 km/h.

Powerful AMG electric motors for consistent performance

Permanently excited synchronous motors power the AMG-specific electric motors at the front and rear axles. The power and torque figures show that a strong focus on performance is already in place. Furthermore, Mercedes-AMG electric motors have an ideal blend of increased power, economy, and noise comfort.

Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+: feel all-electric luxuryNovel windings, greater currents, and new actuation through inverters with specially created software, among other things, guarantee this. This allows for faster rotational speeds and, as a result, more power, establishing new benchmarks in acceleration and peak speed.

The EQS 53 4MATIC+’s electric motor at the rear axle is exceptionally strong. The six-phase design, which consists of two windings with three phases each, is one of the main reasons behind this. The move-in winding on the stators ensures a very strong magnetic field.

In addition, the thermal idea is very durable, allowing for repeated acceleration movements with consistently good performance. The so-called water lance in the rotor shaft, which cools it, is the focal point of the innovative design.

Special ribs on the stator and the needle-shaped pin-fin structure on the inverter, both constructed of high-performance ceramics, are further AMG-specific cooling features in the cooling circuit. There’s also a transmission oil cooler, which improves the economy while driving in cold weather by warming the transmission oil as required.

Smart energy recovery when braking

The new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ establishes new benchmarks not just in terms of extremely dynamic power delivery while accelerating, but also in terms of efficient energy recovery when braking. The output of the recuperation system may reach 300 kW.

The driver may regulate the amount of recovery in three stages using switches on the steering wheel, and the ECO Assistant can provide situation-specific assistance. Combined braking is possible until the vehicle comes to a complete stop.

Deceleration is automated in reaction to identified cars ahead with the optional DRIVE PILOT until they come to a stop, such as at traffic signals.

Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+: feel all-electric luxury107.8 kWh powerful batteries for the AMG EQS

The new Mercedes-AMG 53 4MATIC+ has a strong 400-volt battery built with the latest lithium-ion technology. In the field of cell chemistry, significant advancement has been made in terms of sustainability: The cobalt level is lowered to ten percent, and the optimized active material has an 8:1:1 ratio of nickel, cobalt, and manganese.

The useful energy content of the high-voltage battery is 107.8 kWh. The AMG-specific wiring, which is fitted to the high-performance capacity, is one of the unique technological features.

The battery management system has also been customized for AMG. Performance is prioritized in Sport and Sport+ driving modes while the operating range is prioritized in Comfort mode. In comparison to past improvements, the new generation of batteries has a much greater energy density.

It has a larger charging capacity as well. Another new feature is the ability to download and install battery management system upgrades over the air.

Short charging times due to superior battery design

Another benefit of the new battery generation is that it charges in a fraction of the time. The battery, like the Mercedes-EQ sister vehicle, can be charged at direct current quick-charging stations with up to 200 kW. After a little over 19 minutes, electricity for up to additional 300 kilometers (WLTP) may be added.

The electrified AMG may be charged at home or at public charging stations with up to 22 kW (optional) of alternating current using the onboard charger. Bidirectional charging, i.e. charging in both ways, will be feasible in Japan.

In addition, depending on the location, intelligent charging programs may be initiated automatically. Charging is made even more efficient with features like battery-friendly charging.

Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+: feel all-electric luxuryShortening charging times is also aided by effective heat control. When the clever navigation with Electric Intelligence feature is turned on, the battery is warmed or cooled as required while driving to attain the optimal temperature for quick charging at the charging station. The battery’s required temperature range is accomplished with the help of a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) booster heater inserted into the cooling circuit.

The battery is also notable for its long life. The ECO Charging feature helps a lot with this: the intelligent control minimizes the battery load when charging, which slows down the battery’s natural aging process.

Customers may also take advantage of the “charge interruption” feature, which allows the charging process to be interrupted at any moment, allowing them to take advantage of lower off-peak power at a later time. The battery certificate attests to the high-voltage batteries’ extended service life. It is good for a period of 10 years or for a total distance of 250,000 kilometers.

Pure AMG styling elements

At first look, the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ stands out from other cars with combustion engines because to its one-bow lines and cab-forward design with a hatchback. The richly sculpted surfaces minimized joints, and smooth transitions represent the design concept. The external design incorporates signature AMG characteristics and adapts them to the all-electric era.

The end effect is a distinct, brand-typical look combined with optimal aerodynamic efficiency. The AMG-specific black panel grille with hot-stamped vertical struts in chrome, integrated Mercedes star, and “AMG” writing distinguishes the front look with DIGITAL LIGHT headlights as standard.

The front bumper, which is painted in the vehicle’s color, retains the unique design style. The front apron, which is coated in high-gloss black and incorporates chrome trim, contrasts with the usual AMG A-wing design.

The revolutionary MBUX Hyperscreen comes standard on the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+. From A-pillar to A-pillar, this huge, curved screen unit spans. Under a glass cover, three displays seem to merge into one.

MBUX adapts totally to its users’ thanks to adaptive software and delivers customized recommendations for a variety of infotainment, comfort, and vehicle functions. The most critical applications are always shown situationally and contextually on the top level in the field of view using the so-called zero layer.

Dynamic material is also authorized on the passenger display while driving in Europe and China. As a result, unrestricted watching of films, text messages, or presentations, as well as internet browsing, is enabled. The so-called “blanking feature,” which prohibits the driver from viewing the material, makes this feasible.

MBUX in the EQS 53 4MATIC+ provides a number of extra capabilities in comparison to its Mercedes-EQ sister models, emphasizing the sporty top model’s high-performance nature. This is especially true of the instrument cluster’s unique displays, as well as the multimedia display and the head-up display.

The equivalent direct-entry button in the center console provides quick access to the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes.
