Mercedes-AMG is stepping towards the all-electric future of driving performance with the new EQS 53 4MATIC+. The Mercedes EQ architecture for premium and executive-class cars serves as the foundation for the first battery-electric AMG production model. From the technology to the exterior/interior design and the emotional vehicle sound, the luxury saloon impresses with brand-specific characteristics everywhere the driver may directly feel them.

Unparalleled electric performance

Mercedes says that, at the core of the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, lies the high-performance driving system with two motors. The AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system features a completely variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, which efficiently transfers drive power to the road in all driving situations. The base model has a maximum total output of 484 kW (658 hp) and 950 Nm of torque. In RACE START mode with boost function, the power capacity rises to up to 560 kW (761 hp) with the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package, which is available as an option. The maximum torque reaches 1020 Nm at this point.

With a battery charge level of at least 80%, the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ sprints from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 3.4 seconds. With the premium package, the maximum speed is restricted to 250 km/h. The AMG EQS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 3.8 seconds in its base form (minimum 80 percent battery charge). Its maximum speed is restricted to 220 km/h.

Permanently excited synchronous motors power the AMG-specific electric motors at the front and rear axles (PSM). The power and torque figures show that a strong focus on performance is already in place. Furthermore, Mercedes-AMG electric motors provide an ideal mix of increased power, economy, and acoustic comfort.

Novel windings, greater currents, and new actuation through inverters with specially designed software, among other things, represent guarantees toward this aim. This allows for greater rotational speeds and, as a result, more power, establishing new benchmarks in acceleration and maximum speed.

The EQS 53 4MATIC+’s electric motor at the rear axle is especially potent. The six-phase design, which consists of two windings with three phases each, is one of the main reasons behind this. The move-in winding on the stators ensures a very strong magnetic field.

In addition, the thermal architecture is extremely robust, allowing for repeated acceleration movements with consistently excellent performance.

The so-called water lance in the rotor shaft, which cools it, is the focal point of the complex design. Special ribs on the stator and the needle-shaped pin-fin structure on the inverter, both composed of high-performance ceramics, are further AMG-specific cooling components in the cooling circuit.

There’s also a transmission oil cooler, which improves the economy while driving in cold weather by warming the transmission oil as required.

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ features all-adaptable, all-adjustable suspension

The new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ has a four-link axle in front and a multi-link axle in the back, much like the EQS from Mercedes-Benz. Engineers at AMG have especially enhanced and adjusted the components to suit the unique needs of AMG customers. This is true for both ride comfort and driving performance. The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension has an air suspension system with adaptive, electronically controlled adjustable damping as well as standard rear-axle steering.

The suspension components that affect driving dynamics are unique and exclusive to AMG. This is true, for example, of the rear axle beam, which the specialists entirely redesigned. The subframe and powertrain mountings are also brand-new innovations that are only available on AMG vehicles. This includes the improved transverse stabilizers, wheel carriers, and control arms, all of which are taken from previous AMG Performance models.

The suspension control module analyzes the information from acceleration and wheel path sensors to change the damping force for each wheel in milliseconds to fit every circumstance.  The AMG designers were able to widen the gap between sportiness and comfort considerably.

The range between lowest and maximum damping force characteristics may be increased, as well as the flexibility of characteristic mapping. The damper can change dampening force throughout the whole spectrum of wheel vibrations by utilizing the two adjustment valves. The damper responds swiftly and precisely to changing road surfaces and driving circumstances thanks to the valves’ unique design.

You can even customize the sound the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 makes

The performance and sporting vehicle brand AMG is giving electric propulsion a new sound with the AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE, a score that profoundly improves the dynamic driving experience.

The acoustic arrangement, like the driving modes, has a broad bandwidth: in the standard basic version “Authentic,” the driver may adjust the strength and intensity of the strong, sonorous sound based on the driving state and the chosen driving mode.

Additional hardware is used to create the signature AMG driving noises. Special speakers, so-called shakers, and a sound generator are among them.

Another option for even more individuality: in any driving mode, the driver may choose the sound characteristics “Balanced,” “Sport,” or “Powerful” via the AMG steering wheel buttons or the central display. During RACE START, the car emits a distinct sound that corresponds to the dynamic acceleration.

The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package also includes the AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE “Performance,” which produces a soundtrack with even more passion. It contains most of the so-called event sounds, which are appropriate noises for all vehicle operations that produce a sound, in addition to the driving sounds.

Unlocking and locking the car, as well as starting and halting the drive system, are all part of this process. Because many drivers are unable to live without the familiar sound of the indicators, the software even mimics their click. The AMG-specific Welcome sound, which is heard as the driver enters the car, is a completely new feature.

The event noises may be turned off at any moment using the multimedia system settings – both outside and inside.

The exterior screams AMG

At first sight, the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ stands out from other cars with combustion engines because of its one-bow lines and cab-forward design with a hatchback. The extensively sculpted surfaces, minimal joints, and smooth transitions represent the design concept. The external design incorporates signature AMG elements and adapts them to the all-electric era.

The end result is a distinct, brand-identifiable look combined with optimum aerodynamic efficiency. The AMG-specific black panel grille with hot-stamped vertical struts in chrome, integrated Mercedes star, and “AMG” writing distinguishes the front look with DIGITAL LIGHT headlights as standard. The front bumper, which is painted in the vehicle’s color, maintains the unique design style.

The front apron, which is coated in high-gloss black and includes chrome trim, contrasts with the AMG A-wing design.

The interior is about performance, as well

The cabin is likewise defined by AMG elements that characterize the car’s flair. The AMG seats with unique designs and special seat coverings in ARTICO man-made leather with MICROCUT microfibre and red contrasting topstitching give the EQS 53 4MATIC+ a sporty feel. Optional Nappa leather seat fabric is also available, along with AMG-specific seat graphics.
