Engines and performance
Three motorizations are provided for the new Audi A8. The 3.0 TFSI is a V6 engine that has a three-liter capacity. The 4.0 TFSI, which comes in a variety of power levels for the A8 and S8, spreads its four-liter displacement over eight cylinders using cylinder on demand technology.
The Audi A8 55 TFSI Quattro is powered by a 3.0 TFSI engine that produces 250 kW. (340 PS). It delivers 500 Nm of torque to the crankshaft between 1,370 and 4,500 rpm. It accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds (5.7 seconds for the L variant).
The 4.0 TFSI produces 338 kW (460 PS) and 660 Nm of torque, which is accessible between 1,850 and 4,500 1/min in the A8 model. The A8 60 TSFI Quattro and the A8 L 60 TFSI Quattro both sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, resulting in a particularly dynamic performance.
The cylinder on demand technology, which occasionally disables four cylinders for mild driving, is one of the V8’s highlights. In a nutshell, the A8 is available with a diesel engine as well, and a plug-in hybrid version (PHEV) is on the way.
Progressive and elegant exterior for the new Audi A8
The Audi A8 is a saloon that emanates prestige and authority, and its appearance has been redesigned to be even more representative, confident, and sporty. The Singleframe grille now has a broader base and a grid with chrome edges that grow in size from bottom to top. The lateral air intakes are more vertical and have the same new styling as the headlamps, which have a unique curve on the exterior.
The progressive nature of this premium car is especially noticeable from the side. The roof dome is completely flat. The car’s length is accentuated by stretched lines in the bodywork, and the large wheel arches hint at the standard Quattro drive system.
Wide chrome buckles, a configurable taillight signature with digital OLEDs, and a continuous, segmented light strip dominate the back. The horizontal bars in the diffusor insert in the bumper have been gently enhanced and modified.
Audi offers its customers the chrome exterior option and, for the first time in the A8, the new S line exterior package in addition to the standard design. The latter adds a dynamic touch to the front end and further distinguishes it from the original model, with unique blades at the side air intakes complimenting the front look.
A luxury lounge inside
The upgraded A8’s seat and seat equipment selection is extensive, incredibly comfortable, and exudes the greatest level of authority, particularly in the rear seats, where several alternatives are available.
The A8 L’s relaxation seat is the pinnacle of the program. It has a footrest on the rear of the passenger seat and several adjustability possibilities. Passengers may use it to warm and massage the soles of their feet to varying degrees.
Back massage with 18 pneumatic cushions, electrically adjustable comfort headrests, an optional continuous center console – also available with optional fold-out tables – four-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning, and the new rear displays are all part of the relaxation seat set. The Audi special program includes a cooler with a bar compartment that accentuates the environment’s comfort.
The Audi A8’s MMI touch response operating philosophy makes use of two screens (10.1″ and 8.6″) as well as natural voice control. The Audi virtual cockpit, which is totally digital and comes with an optional head-up display, completes the display and operating concept and highlights the driver’s orientation.
With its high levels of information, the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System was designed for demanding Hi-Fi enthusiasts. It provides 3D sound to the rear seat. The 23 speakers are powered by a 1,920 Watt amplifier, and the tweeter lenses are controlled electronically via the instrument panel.
Many comfort and infotainment features may now be managed from the back seat, thanks to the rear seat remote, which is now securely affixed to the center armrest. The control device is roughly the size of a smartphone, with an OLED touch display.
Everything for an incredible ride
The Audi A8’s powerplants are all coupled to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission that shifts quickly and softly. The automatic gearbox can change gears even when the combustion engine is not working, thanks to an electric oil pump.
The sport differential is optionally complemented with the constant all-wheel-drive Quattro with the self-locking center differential. This is standard in the S8. During quick cornering, it actively distributes power between the rear wheels, making the handling even sportier and more stable.
The predictive active suspension is the centerpiece of the improved A8. It may use an electric motor to load or unload extra power to each wheel separately, allowing it to actively control the chassis position in any driving circumstance. The Audi A8’s driving experience is enhanced by the use of predictive adaptive suspension.
When the Audi drive select system is set to dynamic mode, the big sedan reveals its sporting side. It turns sharply into curves, has short roll angles, and the body hardly dips while braking. In comfort+ mode, on the other hand, it glides over rough terrain with ease.
The steering system works in tandem with the front camera to detect unevenness within the system’s constraints and predictably manage the actuators.
