A Decade of Excellence: Transition to Electrification
Celebrating a decade since its inception, the Porsche Macan enters its second generation, now reimagined as an all-electric powerhouse. With its forward-thinking, timeless aesthetics, signature Porsche performance, extensive range, and practicality for daily use, the new Macan 4 and Macan Turbo are designed to meet and exceed the expectations of Porsche enthusiasts opting for an SUV.
“The Macan has been elevated to an entirely new plane, featuring extraordinary E-Performance, innovative Driver Experience, and a striking design,” stated Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, during the global launch in Singapore.
“The all-electric Macan is poised to be the most dynamic model in its category,” declared Jörg Kerner, Vice President of the Product Line Macan.
The use of the latest generation of PSM electric motors on both axles ensures exceptional efficiency and consistent power delivery. The Macan 4, with Launch Control, generates up to 300 kW (408 HP), while the Macan Turbo goes up to 470 kW (639 HP). The impressive torque values of 650 and 1,130 Nm respectively underscore the vehicles’ superior driving performance.
The Macan 4 can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, with the Macan Turbo achieving this in a mere 3.3 seconds, reaching top speeds of 220 and 260 km/h, respectively.
Innovative 800-Volt Premium Platform Electric
The electric motors derive power from an underbody lithium-ion battery with a gross capacity of 100 kWh, with up to 95 kWh actively usable. The battery is a key element of the newly developed Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800-volt architecture, a first for Porsche in the new Macan.
With a DC charging capacity of up to 270 kW, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 21 minutes at suitable fast-charging stations. The system also allows for efficient charging at 400-volt stations without requiring an additional HV booster, thanks to a high-voltage switch that splits the 800-volt battery into two 400-volt batteries.
The vehicle supports AC charging at up to 11 kW at household wall boxes.
The Macan can recuperate up to 240 kW of energy through its electric motors while driving. The Integrated Power Box (IPB) enhances the efficiency of the new Macan models and conserves weight and space by combining the onboard AC charger, the high-voltage heater, and the DC/DC converter. The combined WLTP range reaches up to 613 km in the Macan 4 and up to 591 km in the Macan Turbo.
Dynamic Aesthetics: Sporty Proportions and Coupé-like Silhouette
The new Macan models exude dynamism and dominance, thanks to sharper proportions and the incorporation of Porsche Design DNA.
“The all-electric Macan represents the first Porsche to transition from an established product identity to electric,” noted Michael Mauer, Vice President of Style Porsche. “While maintaining the iconic Porsche proportions, we’ve adapted and optimized the design to meet the requirements of an electric vehicle, enhancing the Macan’s sporty, modern, and dynamic presence. It’s clear from its design: the Macan continues to epitomize the sports car of its segment.”
The vehicle’s length of 4,784 mm, width of 1,938 mm, and height of 1,622 mm, along with the bonnet’s shallow pitch and pronounced wings, give the Macan a dynamic stance even when stationary. The vehicle is equipped with up to 22-inch wheels and features a wheelbase 86 mm longer than the previous model (2,893 mm), balanced by short overhangs.
The two-part headlights, the flat upper light unit with four-point daytime running lights, and the main headlight module with optional matrix LED technology emphasize the vehicle’s width. The distinctive Porsche flyline merges seamlessly with the flat rear window, while frameless doors and side blades contribute to a sleek, sporty design.
Pronounced rear shoulders and the sculptural 3D light strip with the centrally placed Porsche logo complete the rear’s muscular appearance.
Enhanced Aerodynamics and Interior Spaciousness
Porsche merges its design ethos with optimized aerodynamics to extend the range and reduce power consumption. The Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system, with a drag coefficient of 0.25, positions the new Macan as one of the most aerodynamically efficient SUVs available. The system comprises the adaptive rear spoiler, active cooling flaps, and sealed underbody, among other features, ensuring aerodynamic efficiency.
The electrification of the Macan has increased its luggage space, offering up to 540 liters behind the rear seat bench, depending on the model and equipment, and an additional ‘frunk’ under the bonnet with a capacity of 84 liters. The rear luggage compartment capacity can be expanded to 1,348 liters with the rear seat backrest folded down, and the vehicle boasts a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg.
The interior design is quintessentially Porsche, with the cockpit’s width accentuated by an integrated black panel. The rising design of the center console enhances the low, performance-focused seating position, while large windows create a bright, spacious feel.
The vehicle features modern digital interfaces, select analog controls, and thoughtful ambient lighting that also serves as a communication light. The new Macan allows extensive customization, with an increasing use of ecological materials in select interior parts.
Advanced Driver Experience and Connectivity
The Macan is outfitted with the latest display and operating systems, including up to three screens, such as the free-standing 12.6-inch, curved-design instrument cluster and the 10.9-inch central display. The Porsche Driver Experience now includes a head-up display with augmented reality technology, seamlessly integrating virtual elements like navigation arrows into the real world.
The new-generation infotainment system is based on Android Automotive OS, with the standard Porsche Communication Management (PCM) offering unparalleled computing performance. The system suggests routes and charging stops and allows direct access to popular apps from third-party providers.
Unmatched Driving Dynamics
Porsche has meticulously crafted the Macan to deliver the brand’s hallmark driving dynamics and steering precision. The all-wheel drive, controlled by the power electronics in real-time, and the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) ensure exceptional traction and stability. The Macan Turbo further benefits from Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) on the rear axle.
The Macan’s optional rear-axle steering, a first for the model, enhances maneuverability in urban settings and stability at higher speeds. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping control, now with two-valve technology, offers an even broader range between comfort and performance.
Porsche Macan: Continuing a Legacy of Excellence
Since its debut in 2014, Porsche has delivered over 800,000 Macan units globally. This legacy is poised to continue with the all-electric successor, produced in a net carbon-neutral manner at the Porsche Plant Leipzig. The new models are scheduled for delivery to the first customers in the latter half of the year.
